However, world’s fist hydrogen powered yacht is to take to the water off New York anytime next year. Launched in 2008, the San Francisco Hornblower Hybrid was a new paradigm in Eco travel. The hybrid ferry was launched to run on a combination of solar, wind and diesel power; however, the new 1400hp New York Hornblower
adds another source to the mix of energy source to compliment the trio, a proton exchange membrane fuel cell that turns hydrogen into electricity.
Vessel will be powered by solar panels and wind turbines and the diesel engine will step in wherever there will be a need for extra power. Scheduled to be completed by April next year, 600-passenger New York Hornblower Hybrid will be made of
recycled glass countertops, LEED-certified carpet and aluminum wall coverings. The eco friendly ferry will have minimum carbon emission as it sips, rather than guzzle, diesel.
The yacht features an outdoor sundeck and two interior decks, including one with glass walls. Whereas the LED
video screens and lighting will reduce the energy consumption, the long life, low volatile organic content paints will cover the vessel’s exterior. And, all these features will together help minimize the impact on environment with
